Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Cornerstone Church of Bluffton ("we," "us," "our"), the publisher of the Sharpen app for iPhone and Apple Watch (the "App"). By tapping "I agree" or using the App, you accept these Terms, our Privacy Policy, our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, our Health & Safety Disclaimer, and our Community Guidelines. If you don't agree, don't use the App.

1. Who can use Sharpen

  • You must be at least 13 years old. Sharpen is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
  • If you are 13 to 17, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use the App only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.
  • Where the law requires it, we use the age category and parental-consent information provided by the App Store to apply these limits.

2. What Sharpen is, and what it isn't

Sharpen offers daily devotional readings, a strength-training log and planner, links to music apps, an optional app-blocking "Focus Lock," and optional friend challenges.

Sharpen is not medical advice, physical therapy, nutrition advice, mental-health care, or pastoral counseling. Workout plans, weight suggestions, estimated one-rep maxes, and any plan personalized by Apple Intelligence are generated automatically from the information you enter. They are general fitness information, not a prescription for you. Read the Health & Safety Disclaimer before you train.

3. Assumption of risk and release

Exercise, including lifting weights, carries inherent risks of injury, illness, and in rare cases death. You choose whether, how, and how much to exercise, and you voluntarily assume all risks of doing so. You are responsible for using equipment safely, using a spotter or safety arms when appropriate, choosing loads you can handle with good form, and stopping when something doesn't feel right.

To the fullest extent the law allows, you release Cornerstone Church of Bluffton and its pastors, staff, volunteers, and contributors from any claims arising from your exercise, your use of any workout or plan suggested by the App, or your reliance on any information in the App. Some places don't allow certain releases, so this may not apply to you in full.

4. Your content and your conduct

"Your content" includes your display name, challenge names, reflections, and anything else you enter. You keep ownership of it. You give us a limited license to store and display your content only as needed to run the App (for example, showing your display name to members of a challenge you join).

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. You agree not to:

  • use a display name or challenge name that is hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, violent, threatening, impersonating, or otherwise objectionable;
  • harass, bully, threaten, or spam other users, including by misusing nudges;
  • impersonate anyone, or use the App to collect information about other people;
  • interfere with the App, access it in unauthorized ways, or use it for anything illegal.

The App filters names, and you can report or block other users in any challenge. We review reports and act on objectionable content within 24 hours, including removing content and banning users who violate these Terms. See the Community Guidelines.

5. Challenges and iCloud

Challenges use Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) public database. When you create or join a challenge, after giving the consent the App asks for, your display name and daily check-ins are shared with the other members of that challenge. You can leave a challenge or delete all of your challenge data at any time in Settings → Privacy & Data.

6. Third-party services

The App works with services we don't control, including Apple Health, Apple Watch, iCloud, Apple Intelligence, Screen Time, Apple Music, Spotify, and the YouVersion Bible Platform. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Bible text provided through YouVersion remains the property of its copyright holders and is shown under YouVersion's license. The King James Version text included in the App is in the public domain in the United States.

7. Focus Lock

Focus Lock uses Apple's Screen Time framework to block apps you choose while a workout is running. It's a convenience feature with an automatic safety unlock. Don't rely on it for anything safety-related. Emergency calls remain available from your iPhone's Lock Screen, and you can unlock apps or turn Focus Lock off at any time in Settings.

8. Our content and license to you

We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. The devotional content, workout logic, design, and software are owned by us or our licensors. Don't copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or redistribute the App except as the law allows.

9. Changes and termination

We may update the App or these Terms. If we make material changes, we'll show the updated Terms in the App and ask you to agree before you continue. We may suspend or end your access to challenges if you violate these Terms. You can stop using the App and delete your data at any time.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We don't promise that the App will be error-free, that calculations or suggestions will be accurate or suitable for you, or that data will never be lost. Back up anything important.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CORNERSTONE CHURCH OF BLUFFTON WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, LOSS OF DATA, OR LOSS OF PROFITS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS (US $50). Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you in full.

12. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify Cornerstone Church of Bluffton against claims arising from your content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of anyone else's rights.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Beaufort County, South Carolina, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing here limits rights you have under the consumer-protection laws of the state where you live.

14. Apple App Store terms

These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product-liability claims, claims that the App fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer-protection, privacy, or similar claims, and for any third-party claim that the App infringes intellectual property. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You must comply with third-party terms when using the App. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
