Privacy Policy

Effective October 28, 2026

Sharpen is published by Cornerstone Church of Bluffton ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information the Sharpen app for iPhone and Apple Watch handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. We don't show ads, we don't sell or rent your information, we don't use analytics or tracking SDKs, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.

If you live in Washington, Nevada, or Connecticut, also read our separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, which covers fitness and health-related information in more detail.

1. Information that stays on your iPhone

Most of Sharpen works entirely on your device. We (the developer) never receive this information:

  • Training log: workouts, sets, weights, reps, reps in reserve, exercises, plans, bodyweight you enter, and personal bests.
  • Training profile: goal, age, experience, schedule, equipment, and any injuries or notes you type into the plan builder.
  • Devotions: which devotions you've completed and the reflections you write.
  • Settings: reminders, music choice and playlist link, Bible translation, and Focus Lock choices.
  • Focus Lock: the apps you pick are stored by Apple's Screen Time system as private tokens. Sharpen can't see which apps they are.

This information is included in your device backups (for example, iCloud Backup, if you use it) under your own Apple Account. It is never uploaded to a server we control.

2. Apple Health and Apple Watch

With your permission, Sharpen:

  • reads workouts, heart rate, steps, active energy, and body weight to show your activity, estimate calories, show average heart rate, and avoid saving a workout twice when your Apple Watch already recorded it;
  • writes your finished strength workouts and estimated active energy so they appear in Health and count toward your Activity rings.

Health information is used only to provide these features to you. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, never shared with third parties, never sent to iCloud by Sharpen, and never used to train any AI model. You can change or remove access anytime in the Health app: your profile → Apps → Sharpen.

3. Apple Intelligence

If your iPhone supports Apple Intelligence, the plan builder sends your training profile to Apple's on-device language model to personalize your plan. This happens on your iPhone; neither we nor Apple receive it for this purpose.

4. Challenges (optional, stored in iCloud)

Challenges are off until you create or join one, and Sharpen asks for your consent first. They use Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) public database, which Apple operates for us. When you use challenges, these records are stored there:

  • your display name, and a random iCloud user identifier that Apple assigns to Sharpen (it doesn't reveal your name, email, or Apple Account);
  • challenge details you create: name, type, weekly goal, dates, and invite code;
  • check-ins: that you completed a workout or a devotion on a given date. Check-ins come only from activity you log in Sharpen, never from Apple Health;
  • nudges you send or receive (chosen from preset messages);
  • reports you submit about other users. (Blocks are kept only on your iPhone.)

Members of a challenge can see each other's display names and check-ins. We can access these records through Apple's CloudKit tools to operate and moderate challenges. Apple delivers nudge and check-in notifications through its push notification service.

Delete your challenge data anytime in Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete my challenge data. This removes your memberships, check-ins, the nudges you've sent, and the challenges you created (along with their members' check-ins). Leaving a challenge removes your membership.

5. Bible text (YouVersion)

If you choose a Bible translation, Sharpen loads that text from the YouVersion Bible Platform (Life.Church). Those requests include an app key and a random install identifier created by YouVersion's software, plus the passages requested. Sharpen doesn't send YouVersion your name, workouts, or health information. YouVersion's handling is governed by its own privacy policy. The bundled King James Version text works without contacting YouVersion.

6. Music and links

The music button opens Apple Music or Spotify. With Apple Music, Sharpen reads the current song's title on your device to show it, and it isn't stored or sent anywhere. Opening a playlist link or the "Bible App" button leaves Sharpen, and the other app's or website's privacy policy applies.

7. Notifications

Devotion, workout, rest-timer, and challenge reminders are scheduled on your device. Nudges and check-in alerts are delivered by Apple's push notification service.

8. Age

Sharpen is for people 13 and older. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Where the law requires it, Sharpen asks the App Store for your age category. It uses that only to apply age limits and stores just the category (adult, teen, or under 13) on your device. If you believe a child under 13 has used challenges, contact us and we'll delete the data.

9. How long we keep information

On-device data stays until you delete it or delete the App. Challenge data stays in iCloud until you delete it, leave the challenge, or the challenge's creator deletes it. We delete reports within 12 months after they're resolved, unless we need them to address abuse or comply with law.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington), you may have the right to:

  • know what personal information we process, and get a copy (Settings → Privacy & Data → Export my data, or email us);
  • correct it (edit your display name, log, or reflections in the App);
  • delete it (Settings → Privacy & Data);
  • withdraw consent at any time (Settings → Privacy & Data → Withdraw challenge consent);
  • opt out of sale, targeted advertising, and profiling. We don't do any of these, so there is nothing to opt out of. We also honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals by default, because we don't track;
  • appeal a decision we make about your request by replying to our response.

To make a request, email jake@cornerstonebluffton.org. We respond within 45 days (30 days for deletion requests covered by Washington or Nevada health-data laws). We won't discriminate against you for exercising your rights. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows.

11. Security

On-device data is protected by your iPhone's encryption and passcode. iCloud traffic is encrypted in transit and stored by Apple. No system is perfectly secure, so please protect your device with a passcode.

12. Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date and, for material changes, ask you to review it in the App.
